Urban draft Radebeul Ost 2011
DESIGN STRATEGY
Radebeul is located geographically between the Elbe in the south and the Lößnitz in the north near Dresden. The city with its 30,000 inhabitants is considered to be a wine, villa, and garden town. Another characteristic feature is the Schmalspurbahn in Radebeul, which has existed there since the end of the 19th century, still driving today and being preserved as an important cultural heritage of the city. The planning area is the city and railway node Radebeul East. The planning area is almost one kilometer long and only 80 meters wide. It is home to the Schmalspurbahnmuseum of the city. The main theme of the design has, therefore, become the narrow-gauge railway. To the structure of the landscape in the north were added 4 levels, which merge like tracks and allow a view of the railway tracks and the newly designed open-air museum. In addition, there have been designed free-space-modules, made out of concrete, which offer versatile utilization: expositions, sitting areas, something to play with.
