OPEN-AIR THEATER
According to the model of the armadillo
The aim of this design is the creation of a structure for an open-air theater whose spatial effect is determined by the load-bearing elements, which simultaneously have to allow sufficient flexibility for play scenes.
After the first considerations about the feasibility, my focus was drawn to the form and function of the shell of the armadillo, which became the model for the design. The girdle-like flexible skin layers of the armadillo do form the basis of the structure. The final result is a shell construction consisting of 16 individual parts, where each one can be moved separately, due to a rail system. The design offers the biggest possible flexibility for the theater play and can also be used within the play as an element.
